GenderOpen – a Gender Studies Repository

Logo GenderOpen Open Access Repository

Are you looking for publications from the field of gender studies? Are you trying to reach a bigger audience for your gender research? You think that all texts from the field of gender studies should be compiled in one place. Look no further!

GenderOpen is the name of DFG-funded project to set up the world’s first open access repository for publications from the field of gender studies. You can find it at: www.genderopen.de.

Our aim is to create a digital platform that stores publications from the field of gender studies and makes them accessible and free of charge to all, in order to

  • Collect research results from a diverse field
  • Make results from the field of gender studies easily accessible
  • Increase visibility of publications
  • Change the modes of publication in gender studies
  • Raise awareness of the possibilities of open access
  • Encourage researchers to re-use existing data
  • Influence the public discourse on gender studies in a positive and meaningful way
  • Empower the gender studies community

Since our launch in December 2017, the number of publications in the GenderOpen repository has continually grown. At the moment you can find more than 1800 publications at GenderOpen, among them articles from well-known journals like GENDER, FEMININA POLITICA and feministische studien as well as numerous books and anthologies. Newly acquired publications will be continuously uploaded. We are currently looking to increase the number of PhD dissertations. Postgrads interested in publishing their dissertations with GenderOpen can find helpful information here.

The repository supports both a title-based search and a topic-based search. For GenderOpen we developed an index of keywords that clusters related topics ensuring that users get the best possible results for any given search term. All our uploaded publications are stored as PDF files, which makes them easy to download and offers the opportunity to do full-text searches.

Despite our on-going efforts, we still rely on support and feedback from the community. You can support GenderOpen by

  • Uploading your publications to GenderOpen
  • Telling your friends, co-workers and fellow researchers about GenderOpen
  • Letting others know about publishing in an open-access repository, thereby increasing their visibility

Since we aim to tailor our activities to the specific needs of our research community, feedback, criticism or interest in cooperation is always welcome. For any news and current developments, you can follow our blog at www.blog-genderopen.de.
