Lana Sirri, is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for transdisciplinary Gender Studies (ZtG) and a Member of the Doctoral Program ‘'Religion-Knowledge-Discourse'' (RWD) at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
Born in Yaffa, Israel/Palestine, Lana studied Sociology at Tel-Aviv University and followed a career as Women's Projects Coordinator at the Arab-Jewish Community Centre in Yaffa. Lana completed her M.A. in Gender Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Since June 2013 she has been pursuing a PhD at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Lana's PhD thesis focuses on the 'Diversity of Islamic Feminist Discourses in Contemporary Feminist Thought' and involves a critical evaluation of Muslim Feminist Discourses.

Research Project
My research proposes a critical exploration of “Islamic Feminist” Thought, emphasizing its historical development and its current diversity of theoretical frameworks, epistemologies and methodologies. Today, Feminist Islamic Thought is either overlooked or perceived as one-dimensional, consequently limiting its vast potential to contribute to the areas of Gender Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities. The proposed research aims to address this gap through a comparative exploration of few prominent Muslim feminist intellectual figures, who representing different generations, ethnicities and highly differentiated geo-political locations prescribing different intellectual and socio-cultural challenges to social theory and feminist thought. This comparative perspective invites a contribution to larger questions, such as the inter-relation between differences in (a) experiences, (b) strategies of resistance to patriarchal and other forms of oppression, and (c) the production of knowledge.

- April-June 2015- Three months research trip in USA. Conducted meetings with scholars from Berkeley University, Harvard University, Boston University, Tufts University and Columbia University.
- February 2015- participated and presented a paper on “The tensions between ancient and moder interpretations of Islamic law” at the summer school “Religion, Law & Justice”. Unversity of the Western Cape & Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

- January 2014- participated in the seminar "Theorizing Queer Temporalities", of the InterGender-Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, Göteburg University, Sweden.
- September 2013- FEMOCO "Joint Conference on Feminisms of Color In Germany "- Attended and was a speaker at the conference in Berlin.
- September 2013- participated in the seminar "Studying Feminist Thinkers and Texts" of the InterGender-Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, Helsinki University, Finland.
- Since Oct. 2010- member of the "Gender Working Group" of the FES.
- April 2010- "Gender counts: 10 years of UN Resolution 1325" - I was responsible of the Israeli and Palestinian delegation. I accompanied them during and after the conference. I was also in charge of writing the protocol during the workshops.
- Mai 2008- "Building Bridges, Connecting Realities"- Attended and was a speaker at a conference in Lisbon, Portugal on women from minority hosted by WFM-Portugal.
- March 2007- "Women in Islam, Between oppression and (self) Empowerment » –Attended and was a speaker at a conference in Köln, Germany on women in Islam, hosted by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
