Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Gender as a Category of Knowledge

Kirstin Mertlitsch

PhD Project:

Sisters, Cyborgs, Drags: Conceptual Personae in Feminist-Queer Theories

Description of  the Project

The objects of research in my dissertation are so-called »conceptual personae« in feminist-queer theories, which embody the critique of a homogenous, white, heteronormative feminism. The protagonists of these theories are hybrid anti-heroes,
constituted through acting, body practices, and affect politics: Sisters, Cyborgs (Nomadic Subjects, New Mestiza), Drags. The meaning and function of these figures, which are developed from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s in Western European and Anglo-American contexts, will be analyzed in two ways. (1) Which new terms and knowledge do these »conceptual personae« introduce ? (2) In which kind of ways do »conceptual personae« communicate and experience gender-knowledge ?
