Kurzbeschreibung

Why The Second Sex (Le Deuxième sexe, 1949) again? How does this once “youthful sixty-year old woman” (Kristeva, 2009) survive herself? Where is her lasting “genius” (Kristeva)? Freespirited & ranged, this “feminist Bible” by that busty woman, Madame de Beauvoir, remains undusty. Never a simple “follower,” this subtle “other/other” thinker who “chose to follow” her life-long partner-co-cogitator, Jean-Paul Sartre, appears second to none. This lecture urges us to (re)turn to this headlined concept, “Second(ary),” giving it a second look: its serial subversiveness, its quiet simplexity, its queer “third-dimensionality,” in particular - not three, two, but second, third. Indeed, one becomes (the other) one, deviantly even, as one sees in Simone de Beauvoir of radical possibility whose body minds, reminds.
