Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Gender as a Category of Knowledge

Nana Adusei-Poku

PhD Project:
Conditions of Existence - Post-Black Art and its Intricacies
Adusei-Poku

Description of the Project

Nana Adusei-Poku examines in her dissertation »Conditions of Existence« the realm of the visual based on the hypothesis that in our perception and representation, ›race,‹ and gender are intrinsically tied to each other. Her transdisciplinary approach analyses concepts of ›race‹ and gender as represented in visual culture from a perspective based in cultural studies. She examines subversions through visual representations by emerging black artists and their aesthetic interventions.
