Description of the Project
|
Nana Adusei-Poku examines in her dissertation »Conditions of Existence« the realm of the visual based on the hypothesis that in our perception and representation, ›race,‹ and gender are intrinsically tied to each other. Her transdisciplinary approach analyses concepts of ›race‹ and gender as represented in visual culture from a perspective based in cultural studies. She examines subversions through visual representations by emerging black artists and their aesthetic interventions. |

Particulars

Nana Adusei-Poku, studied African studies and gender studies at Humboldt University, Berlin (2007) and media and communications at Goldsmiths College in London (2009). She will be completing her doctorate in American literature and culture at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 2013. After teaching in gender studies at HU and media arts at ZHdK, she will be Professor (in Dutch: Lector) of cultural diversity beginning July 2013 at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam University’s Willem de Koenig Academy. |
