Research

Gender Studies today is a differentiated, scientific field that generates new knowledge and provides critical feedback to the traditional disciplines. Gender is understood not only as a category of identity, but above all as an interdependent/intersectional analytical category in the examination of different forms of knowledge production.

The relevance and variability of the gender category can only be understood in conjunction with the perspectives and methodologies of various academic disciplines.

Gender research, therefore, requires communication and diverse working modes and formats that encourage cooperation across, and critical reflection on, a wide variety of disciplines.

The ZtG helps create an interdisciplinary working environment by:

  • Developing and organizing conferences and colloquiums,
  • Publishing research results,
  • Supporting young scholars,
  • Serving as a liaison between researchers and research project groups,
  • Providing information about research funding opportunities,
  • Connecting scholars who traditionally work outside of gender studies with partners in the field,
  • Organizing international exchanges for students and teachers,
  • Maintaining online networks, databases and much more at the Gender Library.
